How does Community-based Palliative Care Differ from Hospice?
At the heart of our services, we believe that care always matters at every step of your journey. While palliative care and hospice are both dedicated to improving quality of life, they differ in timing, goals, and the type of medical treatments you can receive.
Community-based palliative care is designed to provide an extra layer of support at any stage of a serious illness, starting right from the time of diagnosis. You do not have to wait for a terminal prognosis to begin this care. One of the most significant differences is that you can continue to receive curative treatments—such as chemotherapy, surgery, or rehabilitation—alongside our palliative services. We coordinate with your existing specialists to manage side effects like pain, fatigue, and nausea so you can stay present for the moments that matter.
Hospice care, by contrast, is a specialized program of palliative care specifically for the final months of a terminal illness. It typically begins after a physician certifies a life expectancy of six months or less and when the focus shifts entirely to comfort rather than curative intent.
We offer a specialized Bridge Program for those who do not yet qualify for hospice, ensuring you receive the monitoring and nurse-led support you need during the transition. Whether you are in Ohio or Indiana, our 24/7 dedicated response team is here to ensure that while we cannot change the outcome, we can affect the journey.
Results may vary based on individual patient conditions. Please consult with a healthcare professional for personalized medical advice. Patients may discontinue hospice services at any time; hospice care focuses on comfort rather than cure.
