How can I Become a Hospice Volunteer in my Community?
Becoming a hospice volunteer is a rewarding way to give back to your community. We welcome compassionate individuals from across Ohio and Indiana, including areas like Springfield, Canton, and Warsaw, to join our team. No medical background or clinical experience is required—we believe that simple presence and a willing heart are what matter most.
To become a volunteer with us, you can follow these three steps:
- Identify Your Interests: Consider which role fits you best. You might serve as a hospice companion volunteer, focusing on friendship and socialization through activities like reading or listening. Alternatively, you could serve as a hospice respite care volunteer, providing vital relief to primary caregivers by sitting with a patient so the family can take a break.
- Complete Training and Screening: We provide free, comprehensive training to ensure you feel confident and prepared. This includes a general orientation (4–6 hours) covering hospice philosophy, safety, and confidentiality. Some specialized roles, like our Veteran Program outreach or legacy projects (creating memory books), include additional brief workshops. A background check is also required for all direct-contact roles.
- Get Matched: Once training is complete, our volunteer coordinator will match you with opportunities that fit your schedule, location, and strengths.
We offer a flexible commitment built around your availability, whether you can give a few hours a week or a few hours a month. Because care always matters, we treat your family like our own and are here to support you throughout your volunteer journey.
Please consult with a healthcare professional for personalized medical advice.
